Supplemental Outreach Initiatives
Scholarship Program
The Stations sponsor the Sandusky Radio Scholarship program at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, AZ
and at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, AZ.

The scholarships for the 2009/2010 school year will be awarded during the summer of 2009 to one ASU and one NAU student.

The scholarships were funded for the period (2009/2010) during May 2009.

General Sales Manager Bob Weaver was a guest speaker at NAU for Broadcasting and Public Relations classes.

KDKB Men’s Health Month – June 2008
Increased awareness of Men’s Health issues in the valley and encouraged men to get regular check-ups.

KDKB provided over 330 liner and recorded promotional announcements.

KDKB United Blood Services “Save Our Summer” Blood Drive – June/July 2008

KDKB teamed with United Blood Services and persuaded 569 donors to give blood during one of the most needed weeks of the year (July 4th week). We provided a Styx guitar as a register to win during our donor days

KDKB Thunder Valley Rally – September 2008

KDKB’s Ruby Cheeks hosted a motorcycle bike ride from Cliff Castle Casino that raised money for the Save The Family
organization that helps families in need get back on their feet to become self-sufficient.

KDKB Coats for Kids Drive – November 2008

KDKB teamed up with the United Phoenix Firefighters Association and asked listeners to drop off coats for needy children
in the valley through the Salvation Army. We collected over 600 coats and $6,100.

KDKB United Blood Services “Media Day” Winter Blood Drive – December 2008

KDKB teamed with United Blood Services and persuaded over 300 donors to give blood during one of the most needed weeks
of the year (Christmas and New Years Day). We provided a 6-pack of concert tickets as a qualifying prize for everyone who gave that day.

KDKB Great Arizona Beer Fest to benefit Sun Sounds of Arizona – March 2009

KDKB helped raise money for Sun Sounds of Arizona benefiting the blind community with reading services through their annual Beer Festival.

KDKB Silent Witness Auction – April 2009

KDKB teamed up with the Phoenix Police Department’s Silent Witness Program to hold an auction to help raise funds
for Phoenix Police Departments Silent Witness program. These funds are used as rewards to help fight crime in the valley.

KSLX and Buddy Stubbs Demin Drive- November 2008

KSLX and Buddy Stubbs collect denim jeans for St. Vincent de Paul Ministy for the valley homeless.

KSLX Holiday Blood Drive - December 2008

KSLX held a Holiday Blood Drive at Fiesta Mall and brought 657 listeners in to donate blood for the United Blood Services.

KSLX Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation - January 2009

KSLX committed 36 hours of broadcast time over two days to raise funds for research for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
All full time Air Staff took shifts during the broadcast and raised over $47,000 in funds.

KSLX "Get in Bed with Mark" Food Drive – March 2009

KSLX morning personality Mark Mayfield committed to three days of broadcast to raise cash and food for the St. Mary’s Food Bank.
At the end of the three days Mark had raise $19.691 in cash and 12 ½ tons of food.

KSLX February 2009-May 2009

KSLX had an Intern, Jacob Demery from Ironwood High School. Jacob took part in a CTE Internship Audio/Visual Program. Jacob
worked with various departments to understand how each department operates. Program Director Jim Owen reported to
Cindy English Coordinator at the school. Jacob completed 100 hours.

KUPD Operation Hydration – Summer 2008
May, 2008 thru September, 2008 Holmberg’s Morning Sickness executed a water drive in partnership with Mayor Phil Gordon’s initiative
to assist the homeless during the summer months. Over 267,000 bottles were collectively distributed during the summer months.

KUPD Fitz’s Quest for Healthy Breasts for the ‘City of Hope’ – July 2008
Afternoon Drive, DJ Fitz Madrid conducted an awareness drive for Cancer research and collected donations at our
annual UFest concert at the Cricket Pavilion.

KUPD ‘Homeless For The Holidays’ – November 2008
Holmberg’s Morning Sickness hosted their annual can food and fund drive for ‘The Neighborhood Ministries’ with a 3 day 2 night
broadcast as they went homeless living in boxes at the Tempe Marketplace for that time period to raise awareness for the organization.

KUPD ‘UBay’ – December 2008

KUPD auctioned off various autographed items, guitars, movie and memorabilia with all the proceeds benefiting the Children’s Crisis Center.
The Center helps to prevent child abuse, neglect, provide emergency shelter, provide aid and comfort to over 11,800 children.

KUPD ‘Veteran Tickets Foundation’ - January 2009

KUPD in conjunction with Live Nation Motorsports donated tickets from our annual events, the AMA Supercross Series and the USHRA Monster Jam
to the organization for Veterans and Active Duty personnel from United States Armed Services.

KUPD ‘Arizona Standown’ – February 2009
Afternoon Drive, DJ Fitz Madrid conducted a blanket drive to support the event for homeless veterans for that weekend event.

KUPD ‘ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Broadcasting’ – March 2009
Night DJ, ShanMan spoke at ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Broadcasting regarding the radio industry.
