Machine Head's Robb Flynn Pokes Fun At Avenged Sevenfold On The Success Of Their “Cover Album”

By Thomas Cowley

In a recent post in his online blog, Frontman Robb Flynn of Machine Head took a comedic stab at Avenged Sevenfold's new Album Hail to the King calling it a “covers album”. Flynn goes on to list his top 10 jokes about the new record saying:

Avenged Sevenfold - “Now with even MORE Metallica”

“Black album” sales skyrocket as fans realize where new songs came from.

After hearing Avenged's Guns N Roses cover “Doing Time”, Axl actually calls Slash, says, “Dude, What The Fuck?!”

Whether or not Flynn wrote these jokes in light hearted jest, or passive aggressive rage is up for debate, though it seems like the former. While he does rag on the bands recent success, he does go on to say, “I'm happy for them. Good band.” and even throws in a written “Ba-dap Psssssss!!” as a way to emphasize the joke.

While it is true that Hail to the King was inspired by great, older bands such as Guns N Roses and Metallica, that's not inherently a bad thing. While it is also easy to see the “covers” side of the debate, the most important thing to remember is that everything influences everything else and nothing was a straight rip off as most AX7 fans will protest. And if the result is more great music then personally, I see little downside. Besides, you can't laugh at anyone if you can't laugh at yourself right?
