Pantera Releasing "Lost" Track From Vulgar Display Sessions

Earlier today I was working out of my house when I got an email from our Promotions Director, Mark Randall, about a new track from Prong that he thought I should check out. After a few email exchanges, I asked him if he had any way to give me a chance to hear the new Pantera track that is buzzing all over the blogosphere this week.  A few more email exchanges later I was in my office blasting this "new" track.

Before I go any further, I want to let every Pantera fan know that this blog post isn't meant to bash or bring down any of the material that has sufaced.  I think what Vinnie Paul has done is bring a piece of what was once great back to the masses who understand what Pantera was all about. Major kudos to him.

To the average Pantera listener, I know that this song sounds fresh and brand new compared to what you're normally used to hearing. In fact, the guitar riffing takes me back to some of my best times in high school jamming Vulgar Display of Power out of my friend's Suzuki Samurai while cruising the main drag of Bagdad, Arizona. As I digress, I know that Pantera purists are going to raise the red flag on this one--as most metal purists do--and call "foul"?  Why?

Given that the track "Piss" is a "lost" track from the Vulgar sessions, it is my hunch that the track might not have made the cut to be on the album because of other reasons than what has been given.  I've read different accounts that there were so many good songs on Vulgar that "Piss" couldn't fit to other accounts saying that the track wasn't good enough.  I tend to agree with the latter.

When I heard the opening riff from Dime, I knew the song could be promising, but after no more than 20-30 seconds later,  I heard another Dime riff that sounded awfully familiar.  While I thought the riffing was going to be somewhat different, I knew that the material wasn't anything groundbreaking as I surmised that "Piss" was probably a track that certainly didn't make the cut to be on Vulgar and would eventually be picked apart to be used on the subsequent album, Far Beyond Driven, in the form of a riff breakdown in "Use My Third Arm".

Don't believe me?  Skip to 2:40 and hear it for yourself:

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT "PISS" BEING A "NEW/LOST" RELEASE AFTER HEARING "USE MY THIRD ARM"?  DOES IT MATTER?
