In 2010, the world lost the legendary metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio to cancer. On April 1, 2014 an album entitled, Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life will be released. It features contributions by Corey Taylor, Metallica, Halestorm, Rob Halford, Anthrax, and many more. I met R.J.D. back in 1991, he was one of the nicest people I ever met (that’s him and I pictured above. I know, my hair looks great). It’s no surprise such rock n’ roll heavyweights came out to honor him. Metallica created a medley of classic Dio material, Halestorm regularly covers Dio’s “Straight Through The Heart” in concert and as you’ll hear, Corey Taylor belts out a powerful version of “Rainbow In The Dark,” which is no easy task.
Corey Taylor said recently: ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ was the first Dio song I really loved to death – just a powerful, high-energy hard rock song that was so good I wished I’d written it.”
How great was Ronnie James Dio as a singer? Here he is with Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath) perform “Heaven and Hell” in 2007. At 65 years old, he could still deliver! m/
