Researchers found that the pressure put on areas of the body used for sitting or lying down produces up to 50 per cent more fat in those parts.

This can explain why couch potatoes and other sedentary behaviour makes you fat when combined with a lack of exercise.

But even those with healthy diet and exercise habits will be affected if they spend long periods sat behind a desk.

Cops: York woman killed roommate in Florida, left body under Christmas presents

YORK, SC (WBTV) - A York County woman reportedly confessed to murdering a 67-year-old woman in Florida and leaving her body under a pile of Christmas presents.

According to York Police Chief Andy Robinson, officers were called by police in Jacksonville, Florida saying 40-year-old Patty White, of Wilson Avenue, was suspected in murdering a woman. 

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says 67-year-old Michele O'Dowd's body was found inside her home on Friday morning around 9:10 a.m. Investigators say O'Dowd's twin brother discovered his sister's body in bed with a pile of Christmas presents placed on top of her. 

"There is nothing worse than when you walk inside and find your own sister brutally murdered over a stupid debit card," her brother told WTEV-News, a CBS affiliate in Jacksonville. READ MORE HERE

Couple badly injured after naked bodybuilder attack

Police say a naked, 300-pound bodybuilder savagely beat a Southern California couple at their home, leaving them in critical condition.

The Sun of San Bernardino says 22-year-old Ruben Arzu apparently was under the influence of steroids and other drugs, and it took four police officers, two stun gun blasts and four sets of handcuffs to restrain him.

Police say the couple came home late Saturday to find Arzu naked on the front porch of their home in Colton.

When Arzu was confronted by the 35-year-old husband, police say the bodybuilder attacked the man, causing major head trauma.

Woman 'escaped after being tied up and buried in box'

A woman was shot with an electric stun gun, bound and gagged and then buried alive in a box after her partner got "bored" with her, a jury has been told.

Michelina Lewandowska, 27, was taken to woods and buried in a shallow grave in May, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Miss Lewandowska escaped from the box and flagged down a passing car.

Her partner, Marcin Kasprzak, 25, of Penistone Road, and Patryk Borys, 18, of Rashcliffe Hill Road, both Huddersfield, deny attempted murder. READ MORE HERE

Woman sues dealer, alleges dead-body odor in SUV

A New Baltimore woman is suing a car dealership, alleging employees there failed to tell her the sports-utility vehicle she purchased once held a dead body.

Margarita Salais filed a lawsuit against Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights in which she claims the dealership did not disclose necessary information about a 2006 Ford Expedition she bought in March, according to an Oakland County Circuit Court complaint.

After Salais bought the car, she started to notice a rotting odor.

"They bought the car while it was still cold out in March," Dani Liblang, Salais' lawyer, said. "The warmer it got, the worse the smell got."

Salais brought the car to the dealership, and someone informed her that the smell came from a dead animal, according to the complaint. But she wasn't satisfied with the explanation.

Salais filed a claim with her insurance company, State Farm, which hired a biohazard cleanup company to search the car, Liblang said. Clinton Township-based Elite Trauma Clean-up determined the odor was of human origin, according a letter from State Farm in the complaint. READ MORE HERE

Deputies: Shoplifter caught with steaks, candles down his pants

Two weeks after he was released on bond for aggravated assault, authorities say Dannial Ashley walked out of a local supermarket with the makings of a romantic dinner.

The problem: He didn't pay for the four steaks and two candles stuffed down his pants.

Ashley, 31, of the 11400 block of Whistlers Cove Boulevard, East Naples, was arrested by Collier County sheriff's deputies Tuesday near the 4800 block of Golden Gate Parkway. He faces a single charge of retail theft of under $100.

Ashley was spotted by grocery store employees putting two packages containing two steaks each into his pants before leaving the store, a sheriff's report said. One employee stopped Ashley, who then removed the steaks and candles from his pants and fled on foot, the report said. READ MORE HERE
