Last night (Wednesday, May 28th) legendary metal band Metallica played a fan favorite “Frayed Ends of Sanity” in Finland as part of their “Metallica by Request” tour for the first time ever. While you would think this could cause issues since the band has never played the song live, drummer Lars Ulrich said, “We’re going to have to sit down and spin that one around for an hour or two. We carry a rehearsal room with us wherever we go. Give us an hour and we can learn any song in our catalog. We like to make the setlist real wacky and change it up as much as possible, but in 2014 the fans are picking the songs.”
Metallica has certainly been on a hot streak in the last few months. With their new single, “Lords of Summer”, performing in Antarctica, and their their feature length film “Through the Never”, the band has certainly remained in the spotlight.
Now, they seem to have broken new ground with the sale of their 1991 self titled “Black Album” which has just become the first album to breach the 16 million according to the Neilsen SoundScan system. This makes the “Black Album” the most purchased album in the past 13 years throughout all genres.
While Metallica is certainly doing well, did they manage to pull off “Frayed Ends of Sanity” after never having played it live before? You be the judge.
