Rob Zombie’s last movie, “The Lords of Salem” in 2012 met with a less than stellar box office performance falling just short of making back its budget ($1.1 million instead of $1.5 million) and afterwords, Zombie said that he would stay away from horror films for “a really long time”. Instead, zombie has spent the better portion of the last two years working on “Broad Street Bullies” a hockey film which is still in pre-production.
Well until now that is, because Zombie has apparently started work on another horror film which he came up with while working on said aforementioned hockey movie. “I’d been working on this hockey film for over two years…it took so much research and work, and I was literally sitting with someone going, ‘You know I have this other idea…’ And I said the idea and they go, ‘Well make that!’ And I put together a one-line pitch, because I didn’t want to go to pitch meetings and do all that. I’d call them on the phone and go, ‘Here’s my idea, blah blah blah,’ and they’re like, ‘We’re in!’ So you slave over something for years and it’s still difficult, and you say some crazy thing off the top of your head and they say ‘Where do we sign?’ And that turned into a weird biding war. And that became the next film.”
If you are wondering what it will resemble the most, Zombie went on to say, “I think it’s something fans of the other stuff will like. Probably fans of ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ will enjoy the most. It’s not connected to that film but it’s ore on that headspace.”
This idea must be good if one sentence was enough to warrant Zombie returning to horror, postponing another film, and start a small bidding war with studios. Only time will tell, but stay tuned!
