While you were jamming to the radio station through the holidays, you might have come across a song called "Do You Want It" from the local boys, Razer. I'm very proud to have Razer come up in my shift every night to gain some local exposure because they have worked equally as hard as any other local band in the Phoenix area. I know there's some local band out there that is ready to go all "Keyboard Ninja" on me, so let me put it this way: Razer has put their time in as much as any other local band, so don’t hate. Appreciate.
Now, this blog post isn't intended to have each party jack each other's egos off, rather it's more of an appreciation of the friendship I have maintained with the band--starting with Chris Catero. I've known Chris since I have started working for 98 KUPD and our friendship has always been exactly as I have said. Chris has always had the intention to maintain a friendship with me and Bret Vesely before making anything professional. It’s something that I truly respect and appreciate. I’m pretty sure that Chris would echo this exact same sentiment if you asked him.
This last year, Chris took his “friendship cap” off to come to me and Bret with a request to help his band out. In no means was it to get his band played on the radio, rather, it was to have a couple of members of KUPD make cameos in their video “Do You Want It”. First of all, I was shocked and honored that Chris would even think of us for being in his video, but secondly, Bret and I had never been in a music video and how could we not say “yes!” After all, the video would be shot at one of my favorite water holes and I could just stand around and hang with my friends. I would be right at home!
So, if you haven’t seen the video for “Do You Want It”, give a watch as you’ll see members of Whiskey Six, our girl Brittany (featured in Five Finger Death Punch’s “Under and Over It” video), our other girl—and station promo girl—Kayla, and former Megadeth guitarist, Marty Friedman, all doing special appearances for Chris and the Razer guys.
Give a watch and let me know what you think…
