Per Ole Hagen/Redferns

The Dream Theater offshoot band Liquid Tension Experiment is planning to release a new album in spring 2021.

The group is made up of current Dream Theater members John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess, ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and prog veteran Tony Levin, who’s played with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel.

The upcoming album will the third studio effort from LTE, and their first since 1999. You can listen to a 55-second preview of what to expect from the record streaming now on YouTube.

Petrucci and Portnoy, both Dream Theater co-founders, recently reunited for the former’s new solo album, Terminal Velocity. It marked the first time the duo’s played together on a record since Portnoy left Dream Theater in 2010.

Dream Theater, meanwhile, just released a new live album, Distance Memories, in November. The group’s most recent studio effort is 2019’s Distance Over Time.
