Metallica details 30th anniversary ‘Black Album’ reissue & all-star tribute album

Metallica is throwing a big party for The Black Album‘s 30th anniversary.

The metal legends have announced a deluxe reissue of their iconic 1991 album, boasting a total of 14 CDs, six vinyl LPs and six DVDs. The package is due out September 10.

Across all those discs you’ll find the original Black Album remastered, live recordings from shows in London and Moscow, various demos and rough mixes, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, among a whole lot more. For a preview, you can listen now to the remastered “Enter Sandman,” along with a 1990 demo of the metal classic and a 1991 live recording.

Along with the deluxe reissue, Metallica has also announced The Metallica Blacklist, a 53-track all-star tribute record, featuring the previously announced version of “Nothing Else Matters” featuring Miley Cyrus, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Elton John, guitarist/producer Andrew Watt, and famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Other artists contributing to The Metallica Blacklist include Weezer, Ghost, Royal Blood, St. Vincent, White Reaper, Biffy Clyro, Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor, Cage the Elephant, Portugal. the Man, Volbeat, The Hu, Phoebe Bridgers, Depeche Mode‘s Dave Gahan, My Morning Jacket, and Chris Stapleton.

The Metallica Blacklist will be released digitally September 10, and will be available on physical formats October 1. Proceeds will benefit the charities of each contributing artist’s choice and Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation.

The Cyrus and company “Nothing Else Matters” cover is available now for digital download, along with a version of “Enter Sandman” by Latin musician Juanes.

Released August 12, 1991, The Black Album brought metal to the mainstream with huge singles including “Enter Sandman,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Sad but True,” “Wherever I May Roam” and “The Unforgiven.” It’s been certified Diamond by the RIAA for over 10 million copies sold, and is one of the best-selling albums of all time.
