We now have a metal sea shanty, courtesy of Trivium‘s Matt Heafy.

During a recent Twitch stream, Heafy remixed the viral shanty “Wellerman” with heavy guitars and pounding drum beats. It’s worth watching just to see the look on Heafy’s face when the metal riffs drop in.

“Wellerman” is widely seen as the song that kicked off the sea shanty TikTok craze, thanks to versions by Scottish musician Nathan Evans and the folk band The Longest Johns.

The phenomenon has made its way into the rock world with sea shanty versions of All Time Low‘s “Dear Maria, Count Me In” and Nickelback‘s “Rockstar.”

In related news, Heafy is teaming up with Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda to produce a fan’s song during a livestream. Tune in to watch this Friday, February 5, via Shinoda’s Twitch channel.

Trivium released a new album called What the Dead Men Say last April.
